Day 223, Lake Cuchina – Solana Beach (San Diego) 422kms, Nov 12th 2

All good things must come to an end they say, and I guess it is true for our North American Road trip. After 223 days on the road and around 42,000 kilometers we are starting our last official road trip day although, when we woke up, we didn’t know that yet!

After the usual routine we headed north along the CA-154 to Solvang, a small Danish town lost in the vastness of California. We stopped for a short walk and some Danish pastries.

From there we headed towards the 101 and the coastal drive south. The plan was to try and catch up with a friend in North LA. We rode through Santa Barbara, Malibu and found out we wouldn’t be able to see our friend… so new plan, keep on going deeper into LA and then try and extract ourselves again!

We wound up passed Santa Monica in Venice beach where we stopped for a walk, a snack and to experience the human Zoo that is Venice beach!

In the meantime I called my friend Steve in San Diego who was happy to have us around and had a bed ready. So, since it was Sunday with relative little traffic (by LA standards) we decided to push through all the way to San Diego, another 200 kms down the freeway. It took another 2 hours to finish off the journey but we got to Steve’s apartment who was ready for us with a bottle of wine, we parked our machines in the garage and relaxed in a sofa with an ice glass of red.

And so it ends…

There will be short trips around San Diego and into the desert in the coming weeks, but the destination has been reached. Mixed feelings of course since I never really thought of what the next move was going to be, but we will figure that out in the coming months.

You made it! A huge bravo for both since this is/was a major undertaking, it will stay in your memories for the rest of your days!
San Diego certainly brings good and less good memories Tanguy and you know the area well.
So, hang around, trip around and enjoy it as long as you can.
I’m counting the days – the hours!
    Baci to both

So that was it. Next adventure will bring other neurones in the move altogether with new feelings … that’s how you build up a life full of as many things as you can… I guess it’s nearly time to pick up a new job too which can be interesting as well.
Look ahead and keep your good memories for difficult times… they exist !
Happy to see you soon dear boy.
