Day 219, around Carmel by the Sea 2

Oh how nice it is to wake up in a comfortable bed, in a room, have a shower and press a button to get coffee! All the little things everyone else just takes for granted!

We walked into town to find breakfast, what we found was a very upmarket and quaint little town, lots of all Mexican style buildingS, a very European feel and many restaurants, wine cellars, art galleries etc…

Downtown Carmel

Breakfast was delicious, in the meantime I made some phone calls and set a time for a private tour of the Talbott motorcycle museum close by. Glenn Starsky from Clearwater lights knows the curator of the museum and got us a visit even though the place was closed. Bobby, the curator walked around with us telling us the stories of the various classic and rare motorcycles on display. A really interesting tour.

From there we headed to the coast, walked to Lobos Point and watched some sea mammals from the distance. The weather was debatable so we headed back to town where we walked around some more in search of food. I felt a little under dressed and the prices were a bit high, so we went to plan 2, bought some nice cheeses and prosciuto, a bottle of wine and went home to enjoy a normal civilized dinner…

Cute little houses / shops in downtown Carmel

in the meantime we also took care of our long overdue laundry…

A nice relaxed day in the upmarket parts of the California coast.

You’re surprised by “normal” things, yet you praised the life in contact with nature and the absence of other humans for over 200 days!
Well, you’re now back in that sort of environment and you need some adjustment, as with the dress code.
Not to worry, all will turn out fine and easy since nowadays this is the humans’ normal environment, the life on the wild side being exceptional, but still worthwhile for a time.
Carmel is definitely very European, even old-style.
    Enjoy it all.

I’m amazed of your reaction about being “under dressed” and prices being a little high…back to normal life…
You’ll catch up no worries but you’ll have nostalgia about your big adventure that’s for sure. Nice memories you’ll keep in mind for ever and loads of beautiful pictures you’ll be able to look at when “nostalgia” comes up 😉
    Carmel looks lovely !
