Day 218, Squaw Valley – Carmel by the Sea, 400kms, Nov. 7th 2

We had a long ride ahead back to the coast. Up at a reasonable hour and moving without real breakfast.

We decided to avoid Fresno and its possible traffic so we took the country / farming roads to the south. Our route took us through California’s Central Valley again and we spent a few hours riding through farmland ranging from lettuce, onions to cotton via olive groves and fruit orchards without of course missing the vineyards (its California after all).

The plan was to meet and stay with some people I had met last week at the Clearwater BBQ in Sacramento and we had to find some form of comms to make it happen. Eventually we found a Starbucks coffee shop where we had wifi and managed to get in touch with them and make a plan. A light snack & some caffeine later and we were back in the road. The road got better, more curves and fun sections in rolling hills and the farming changed from green fields to cattle in the golden dried grass.

Along the way we passed the Pinnacles NP and decided, since we were there and had some daylight left, to have a quick look. We went for a short hike, looked at a cave and went on our way again towards Carmel.

Can you see the animal?

The pinnacles

Our new made friends Jeff & Joan were waiting for us at theit property and settled us in their little AirB&B cottage before taking us to diner in their favourite Mexican place in Carmel Valley.
We had a great time sharing stories, them related to the airline industry as they are retired 747 crew and us with our little boating stories. We also made plans for the following day to visit a motorcycle museum… more on that in the next post!

A long day riding, not many photos and we are back on the coast ready to aim down to San Diego.

Despite the nice adventures you have been doing since March you’re still in need to contacting people meaning your not exactly lost for humanity 😉 (kidding)
No I can’t see any animal on that rock…. Is it a goat ?
After all these nice stories and pictures I must admit that the US for what I have seen here is a very nice country. I enjoyed reading and looking at the superb pictures of the magnificent nature at the National Parks, and so many places you have been during all these months. What an amazing adventure to remember for the rest of your life !

    Back at the coast!
Almost in San Diego! Then what? Further riding to plan, no doubt.
Staying with friends is great, especially from a different industry, broadens the topics.
Now down to San Diego, memory town!
    Baci, it’s Friday here
