Day 198, San Francisco. 2

Today is tourist day, the bikes are staying safely tucked away in the hotel parking and we set off on foot to find breakfast. We found an Italian place that did a good job at feed us and went on to find, probably one of the touristiest (that’s definitely not a word!) thing one can do… An open air double decker city tour bus! We hopped on the bus and got going… The guide was entertaining and informative and we watched the city madness pass us by (or visa-versa)

Town hall

The classic and the modern

We decided to hop off and walk around in the hippy area where the whole summer of love kicked of in ’67, lots of phsychadelic paintings on the buildings, we saw Jimmy Hendricks house and took a bunch of photos of the various murals on display. We kept on walking into the Golden Gate park where we hopped back on the bus and headed across the famous bridge.

We spent some time at the north vista point, mainly taking time lapse videos of the people and the fog rolling in over the bridge. The last segment of our bus ride brought us back into down town.

We walked around some more up Russian hill and its famous ……

We spent some time near fishermans Warf making sure to take a lengthy visit at the Ghirardelli chocalate store located where the original factory started of many years ago.

Did you say chocolate?!

We had made plans to also do a night bus tour which turned out to be extremely cold especially going over the bay bridge to Treasure Island! Upon our return we needed a warm drink and a quick snack just to regain feeling in our fingers and a bit of strength before returning to the Ghirardelli shop for a hot chocolate and ice cream. Feeling adequately sick we returned to our hotel and called is a day!

    ….. cable car?
Indeed this day comes first with the ’67 memories (I was 19), the year a few Vietnam opponent students changed the US.
But at this stage you’re already 100+ miles south
Happy voyage further in a more densely populated part of US.
