It was a brisk but glorious autumn day, a day perfect for a scenic ride to the mountains. We ate what little we had left for breakfast and headed off towards Mt St Helens. The sky was perfectly clear and the air was clear. We saw the famous volcano from over 20 miles out. As we got closer up the scenic road its shear size impressed us! And that’s just what’s left of it since the eruption in 1980. We stopped at a viewpoint along the way to snack on our leftover Mexican food and enjoyed the amazing views.
From there we carried on to the end of the road to the view point and visitor centre. We listened to the tail end of a ranger talk and viewed 2 short documentaries about the volcano, took some more pictures and enjoyed the sun.
On our way back down the mountains we stopped at Cold Lake, stretched and relaxed for a bit and kept on going down. We stopped for an early diner at a rather scenic restaurant overlooking a river, then onwards to our campsite where we played a game of chess which Zoe won as per usual with a beer and some olives… rather sophisticated evening!

OK, it opened, thanks for the repair!
Volcano trip, for the volcano or for the road?
No more bear, elk, moose? Must be a bit boring then, hopefully the roads make up for it: the fun is in the curves.
It must all be worthwhile to stay up North so late in season!
1st October now, weather can turn from Indian summer to early winter within days.
MON still enjoys “summer” according to most Europeans’ definition; 23-25°C in the shade, partly cloudy.

Aah the bug is healed…back to nice views and interedting stories 🙂
During your long trip the sky never has been so intense blue ! Not too cold, not too hot and perfectly dry ! You can’t ask for more on a motorbike’s journey.
Have a nice day !
