Day 172, A wonderful day in the forest 4

We woke up to a cold campground, emerged from the nest sometime after 8 and made hot drinks, and cooked our large supply of breakfast foods. We took half down to the river, and ate our food on a flat rock right next to the running water and fallen trees. An amazingly tranquil spot. After we cleaned up, I went on the visitor centre to see about the hikes while Tanguy tidied up.

We took the only main hike at this spot, the Hoh Tiver trail, which was an 18.5mile one way(!) path to the base of glue glacier, half way up Mt Olympus. We decided to walk until we felt like it; we wouldn’t even make it to the elevation gain section today. The rainforest was beautiful to walk through, lots of huge, old cedar and spruce trees, moss and mushrooms, and giant fallen logs. We couldn’t help taking pictures around very few turns.

We passed a mossy waterfall at the 2.7mile mark, stopped for some snacks and carried on till the old Cedar grove at around 4miles. We walked abit farther until 2pm, then decided it was time to turn back to camp. We stopped on the way back to rest on the gravel river bed. And also to snack, dip our feet in the water (freezing!) and lie on a fallen log.

On the way back, my toes began suffering and Tanguys back began hurting; probably the longest walk we have done in a few months! Arrived back to camp a tad sore. We pulled the brake pads off my front calipers and cleaned then parts up with petrol in order to get to Seattle. We spent the rest of the evening heating up our remaining food for tea, making hot drinks and water for washing. It was pitch black by 8pm, so what left to do but go to bed!

Autumn colours are coming into fashion

It’s good for you guys to walk a bit, too much on the bike makes your legs rusty but take it easy in the beginning.
More nice pictures, like the mushroom is super in color, the big trunk you could sleep in there Zoe !
Too bad Tanguy, the water is too cold for a swim, but are there no hot springs around ?
Thanks again for knowing where you are and for the beautiful pictures and the cards 🙂 !!

Just a walk, a day off the bikes, learns that feet and backs need their on-and-off training as well.
Very nice photographs of the floral encounters.
Eight pm bedtime, with a book …

Glad you guys made it to the Hoh. Stunning rainforest. One of my favourite campgrounds on my long ride in May. Did you check out the beautiful coastal beaches, like Ruby Beach, the following day? Some of the best on the west coast
