Day 157, Pemberton-Vancouver, BC, 157kms Sept 7th 2

We woke up to a cool morning at Nairns Campground, made breakfast while talking with our camp buddy Riel, then packed up, said our goodbyes and headed south. The mountains were still blanketed in smoke from the many fires still burning strong in BC; we stopped briefly in Whistler to check things online, you couldn’t even make out the giant mountains and their world famous ski fields, it was that bad.

We carried on to Squamish where we had lunch at a Starbucks and figured out where we were going to stay in Vancouver. An Airb&b booking later, we drove the beautiful winding “Sea to Sky” highway down into the city. We drove along the coast dotted with islands, all of which hazed out by the smoke. We will have to come back when the weathers better! Once in the big city we navigated the crowded streets and lights to the Vancouver General Hospital where we caught up with my second cousins, Bob and Jenny. Bob had had a motorcycle accident and was still recovering but seemed in good shape and spirits during our visit. Apon leaving,  Bob and his friend Patrick loaded us with local knowledge of the cool roads to ride on the island and in the area.

Riding into the concrete jungle!

So many fires ! Is it every year the same hell ?
How long has it been you where in a big city ?
I didn’t know Zoe had such a big family to have 2 cousins in Alaska and an other one in Vancouver? This long trip was indeed the best way to go and see them to say hello otherwise you never see them isn’t it?
In the meantime they can give you good tips to visit the big city of Vancouver. Do they live in the center ?
It must be a strange feeling riding in a big city after you long routes in the woods and mountain tracks. I’m sure you won’t stay in town center for long šŸ˜‰
I loved the picture of the gas clock šŸ™‚ ! Send us more pictures so we can get a little taste of what you’re seeing and enjoying ! Xxx Mum

Must be the biggest human settlement in months for you both, must be a change if not a shock.
No campground for a few days then, but a shower and washing catch-up maybe.
Looking forward to your reaction on concrete vs bears!
