Day 149, Glacier NP, MT Aug 30th 2

I got up nice and early, due to a fellow rider warning me just how busy Going to the Sun road was, and to avoid the crowds, leave before them. It was cloudy/hazy and cool, not what I had in mind… After a light snack and tea I got going. The road seemed busy along the valley floor, marred by some construction, not great. But once I got higher the traffic thinned and it was a really nice ride alongside steep cliffs to Logan Pass visitor centre.

Passing a shuttle van on Going To The Sun

So smokey though, you could only see hazy outlines of the distant mountains, but the ones up close were impressive. Didn’t do the hike at Logan Pass due to air quality; carried on down the road a ways, then u-turned and headed back to camp.

Relaxing on a hot dry afternoon

Crossed paths with Tanguy, exchanged the park pass over and now my turn to do laundry, what he did while I was gone. He had set up the hammock so spent the rest of the afternoon enjoying a quiet, warm campground almost to myself. It’s essential to stop and relax sometimes, and this afternoon was one of those times. As day turned to night Tanguy bought us some take out pizzas for us to eat while we planned the next day’s route.

Zoe

I took a different approach to the day, having already done this road some years back under better conditions I wasn’t in a rush to get up there. I started the day much later and headed into town for some laundry, lunch and then relax at the camp for a few hours. Zoe came back reasonably early from her ride up the mountain and I figured I should do it too. By the time I got on the famous road, most people were on they way down and I had the road pretty much to myself. The skies were still hazy / smokey and the vistas weren’t as stunning as they should be. Never the less it was a nice ride…

So you both took a ride on your own same as for the laundry……:-)
As for the pictures, sceneries are bellissimo but it’s a pity… that smoke !
We had a fire 500m from house yesterday ! Trackers and helicopters all afternoon…. and of course smoke. Luckily the wind was the other way and they won the battle against the fire.
Pizza delivery at the Glacier NP is a 3*** service Zoe ! Bon appétit !

    Going separate ways? No.
Second time round to the same place is never going to better the initial experience.
Smoke, not fog, so from fires?
Going-to-the-sun road, seems rather smokey and misty.
    Tomorrow 150th day = 5 months, have a celebration!
