13/07 – 21/07 short trip to Europe. 4

Well, we made it to a Prudhoe Bay and back to Fairbanks and still have time to head to Europe in time for my Grand Mothers 95th Birthday. It would be rude not to attend!

So, we packed up the bikes and stored them at Jerrys, our friendly mechanic in Fairbanks and hopped on a plane to Belgium. This will be a whirlwind trip, 5 days in Europe and 2.5 days travel to get there and back.

We arrived just in time for the family dinner, it was quite the surprise since no one knew we would be there. In between the birthday feasts we took the opportunity to visit some of the sights since Zoe had never been to Belgium. We took a boat trip in Antwerp through the harbour and up a canal, visited Antwerp town, went to Gent for a day trip and took part in the festivities that were going on there, went to Rotterdam (Holland) for a day and saw the Kinderdijk windmills… It was a fun short break from riding the bikes and got to see all the family.

Happy 95th Grandma!!!

Trying on my new riding boots!

The flight back was a bit of a mission with cancelled flights etc… but we got back to Fairbanks eventually albeit a day late, got a fresh 180 entry stamp to the US and ready to hit the road again headed south to California.

Bike are loaded, serviced and ready to eat tarmak and dirt for the next 12,000 miles!

Yes you really made a big surprise to all of us. Especially because we were following you constantly on your route to Prudhoe bay and we didn’t even found out that you flipped away to come to see us ! So happy to see you again my boy after 1 year and 1/2 !
Have a good flight back today and a nice drive back down south to San Diego is that it ?

As I can see you wrote this piece while with us, hiding your coming till that Friday night. The whole family will never forget, especially Bomme, Mum and me.
3 days of partying for a 95th is the least we could do!
Thanks again both for the unforgettable surprise!
Sad to separate at R’dam Airport but glad you’re fine and enjoying life.
Continue to do so, sure you will!
