The day started late for several reasons, 1- we were in a warm comfortable bed in our little cabin, 2- it was going to be raining all day (again), 3- we didn’t go to bed until well after midnight. So it wasn’t much before 11:00 when we were packed and checked out of the cabin. We left all our bags and gear under the cooking shelter and went down to the “Sunflower Cafe” where we had a simple yet delicious breakfast. The rain kept on coming easing up at times sometimes even stopping all together for a few minutes with small patches of blue skies and some sunshine before pouring down again… That was the tone of the day.
After breakfast we set up camp in the lounge where we hung out with the owner and her colleague enjoying the warmth as for as long as we could.
Soon enough it was time to face the weather and make a dash for the 120kms that separated us from our next campsite. In between 2 rain showers we packed our bags onto the bikes and took off. It rained the entire way to East Glacier where we stopped for fuel. A short break in the weather as we re-entered the park and set up our tent followed by more rain! It just keeps on coming.
I sprayed our tent with water repellant 2 days ago so we shall see if there is any improvement. We built a shelter with tarpaulins over the picnic table to get ourselves out of the weather a bit and left the tent empty for a few hours while we went to seek shelter again at the general store / coffee shop.
It appears the tent is doing much better as now water was getting through, nevertheless, we set up another tarpaulin over the tent to take care of most of the rain. We cooked dinner under our little shelter and for the best part managed to stay dry, granted we were still wearing our full waterproof riding gear. We tried to make a fire in the hope that the rain would ease up a little and we could roast some marshmallows but had to give up on that plan as we were being smoked out by a fire that really struggled to keep up with the rain.
The only thing left to do was to retire to our tent and get an early night. We hung all our riding gear to dry out (yeah right!!!) above the picnic table and went to hide out for the night in the hope that the forecast is correct and that the sun would be shining in the morning.

Rain is a pain when you’re camping, riding and hiking.
Hope is there will be no rain tomorrow.
You’ll have to live with that.
Sit back and enjoy a book, did you bring any?
Baci on a Sunday morning
We had 2 books, read them both! Need to trade for 2 new ones I guess
Hahaha.. sorry but I couldn’t stop that. Oh boy, that’s part of the thing huh ? Later you will laugh about it but now I can hear you grumble an whinge till here !
During the set up of your route all through the US till Alaska I heard you talk about snow….We have to get there before the snow and before it gets too cold… Isn’t it?
No worries tomorrow it will be warmer with partial sunshine ! Get up early, give us a bright smile and catch up Tanguy !
