After a less of a sleep in, we got ready for day 2 on the west side of Glacier. Had breakfast at the Sunflower Cafe at camp, a cool, casual cafe under an open roof. They made us packed lunches too at a very reasonable price, then headed back into the Park, to park our bikes by the lodge we visited yesterday where the Snyder trailhead begins. The weather was unfortunately overcast and cool, but we set off into the thick forest undergrowth, startling several mule deer near the start of the hike.
The hike was a 9mi round trip up to Snyder Lake, up to another ‘mountain bowl’ where three sides rose sharply up to high, rocky peaks. The hike ran up a river but the forest was so thick we only caught a few glimpses. Fresh bear scat and some hikers warning us of seeing a bear further up the trail, but unfortunately we don’t see him. Probably better in this thick forest!! By the time we arrived to the lake the clouds had closed in and it had started to drizzle, not ideal picnic weather…I had to get my beanie out. But our packed lunch was good and gave us fuel to keep our bodies warm the remainder of the hike. We saw lots of ‘Bear Grass’ with big white flower tops, as well as ferns bracken and what we thought looked like huckleberries or Rosehips… We are no herbologists though!
They way back was mostly downhill, nice and easy, on the drive back towards camp stopped at Apgar village for a look around. Apon arriving back we packed up our much enjoyed campsite to move into a Cabin. It’s supposed to rain tonight and tomorrow and we don’t want to pack up wet gear or in the rain!! After moving in I set off to buy dinner to grill on the BBQ while Tanguy had to fix and electrical issue… A yummy dinner on the grill later, it was dark and late and ready for bed.

Very green environment and nice close up ! It”s good to see you on the pictures now and then…. Next is Zoe !
Be careful for the bears the more that they have their cubs with them ! A bit like the wild boars we have around us for the moment; they don’t hesitate to attack when you come too near….C’est maman qui l’a dit !

2 days in the woods, rain-no rain, bear-no bear, relaxed hiking in the greeneries of Northern Montana.
I’m now waiting for the border crossing into Canada!
