Day 77, Big Fork MT – West Glacier MT, 98kms. 2

It’s Monday, and in the land of the normal people that means it’s back at work day which is great since we need someone to fit new tires to our rims. The ravens were much better behaved this morning and with the lack of kids around us there was no shouting.

So the day started casually late at 0830, the usual morning chores out of the way and we are in our way to Kalispell about 30kms up the road. I had made arrangements for some tires and a time slot to have them fitted and all things being good, the tires should be there and the technician available to fit them.

In order to save cost (and for the sake of having things done just right) we took the wheels off our bikes ourselves in the car park at “Penko Motor Sports” and by noon, all 3 wheels were off the bikes and ready for new rubber. Our appointment wasn’t until 14:00 but I figured we could just get some food and browse through their store for a while. While I set of to replace my rear brake pads (I picked those up ages ago in Salt Lake City) Zoe went looking for food. By the time Zoe came back and my brakes were on the guys had already knocked out 1 tire. The other 2 were done shortly after. If anyone is ever passing through the area and in need of tires or any other assistance, these guys (Penco Motor Sports) are great and reasonably priced. It didn’t take us long to get all the bits back together and by 14:30 we were on our way headed for a Glacier National Park along with a long line of RVs

Look at that thread! His and hers matching rubber

The ride to Glacier was quite short and we arrived shortly before 4 looking for a camping spot. We had one in Mind but didn’t book it and were hoping they would have availability.

Come to find out, things were actually really quite still since the famous “Going To The Sun Road” wasn’t open yet and apparently most US travelers come here mainly to drive that road. So we’re were in luck, our tent spot is very nice, lots of fire wood laying around everywhere and no direct neighbours other than a handful of squirrels and some pesky mosquitoes.

We ended the day relaxing in hammocks, reading our books before cooking up some dinner and Making some smores on our fire.

Finishing the day with a book, in a hammock in a quiet wooded campsite

A very successful and relaxed day.

Short drive for new tyres, the load on the bikes shorten the lifespan, yes?
Just to look at the tread gave me fear of height!
Time to steer North guys, today is mid June already.
