Day 63, Lava Hot Springs ID – Grand Teton NP WY, 233kms 2

Started with Tanguys alarm going off early in the morning, in plans for getting us up to go to the Hot Springs early. Luckily the sun was already bright and warming our tent, so we got dressed and drove a short way into town to the Springs. Arrived just after 8, by quarter to nine it was already getting busy with families and Asian tour groups. We enjoyed a soak then grabbed breakfast at the Chuck Wagon Diner in town, the only place open for breakfast.

After a massively portioned breakfast, we headed back to camp to pack up. Bob’s (organisations) place was only half a mile up the road from our campsite. After arriving there, we caught up and he showed me around the house and garden that was getting set up to be a meditation retreat destination. The two ladies invited us for lunch; they had made a traditional Thai dish similar to Phad Thai. We sat down with them for lunch and couldn’t help having a little bit of the yummy food, despite our breakfast being only a few hours ago. After that it was time to hit the road (not before they loaded us up with avocados/left overs for the journey).

The road to Jackson Hole wound through rich green fields, small farming towns then through a gorge with a very brown fast flowing river at the bottom. Flooding is evident all over this state. Jackson Hole is a cool tourist town that caters to all the tourist heading into the Tetons/Yellowstone. We had to stop and take a picture of the huge Elk archways!

Then carry on to grab a map at the visitor centre and find our campsite in the park. We set up camp at a vast sprawling campground near the river (over 300 sites!) fortunately there were heaps of spots free and it was a quiet spot. We enjoyed left over Thai noodles for dinner, then spotted a moose having a munch on the trees not far from our campsite. As we are now in Grizzly as well as black bear territory, Tanguy thought it would be wise to see if his 7yr old can of bear spray still works. Well it does and he definitely doesn’t want to test it again!!

And now, we are trying to go to bed early because tomorrow will be a big day exploring the park – despite snow still covering most of the trails.

Pictures show some serious slaughtering took place over time!
One of their favourite pass-times since arrival of the Go-West action.
    But you’re going North again.
I’m amazed at the number of hot springs along your route and also the apparent lack of decent food.
Sure you’ll see a bear one of these.
Third post for the day, good day, third time baci!
