Day 60, Macks creek park ID – Smiley Creek ID, 254kms 2

Today there are 3 of us riding. We caught up with Bob, a relative of Zoes riding his Vstrom from Vancouver on his own road trip and for the coming few days we will be riding with him.

We set off in the morning headed up into the Sawtooth mountains with the aim to spend the night with some friends of Bobs, our new riding buddy. The ride through the Idaho mountain roads was awesome. Great motorcycle roads with lots of windy sections and beautiful scenery along rivers, through forests, snowy mountain passes… Really great riding country.

Along the way we stopped for lunch at a real nice lodge in a clearing, it must just have opened for the season and were very quiet. Friendly people, decent food and beautiful backdrop for our lunch.

The roads after lunch were just as fun and scenic and we kept having fun wearing out the fun sides of the tires! Unfortunately, later in the day the weather started to turn on us and before we knew it we were getting changed into our wet weather gear and riding in rain.

Unfortunately we were unable to find or connect with the people we were planning on spending the night with and we seaked refuge in a small lodge / restaurant in a place called Smiley Creek. Aka the boonies The hour was getting late and we needed a place to sleep. Eventually the manager must have felt sorry for us and agreed to let us stay in his yurt tents at winter rates which was a deal hard to turn down!

Unfortunately they didn’t offer diner so we had to cook our own food, what little we still had with us but at least we had a real nice and warm place to spend the night. We took the opportunity of a laundry room to catch up on laundry and finished the night late in freezing weather.

Two months on the road, on the bikes.
You should be halfway to the Northern destination now.
Changes life a bit to get a third rider in the group, same frequency to talk?
Sleeping in a yurt is another case to tick.
It must feel nice to reach your level of freedom.
