Day 59, Bunbery Hot Springs ID – Macks Creek Park ID, 237kms 2

Another beautiful morning, great night sleep in perfect temperatures. Off on the road to meet Zoes relative somewhere near Boise. The obvious route would take us over the interstate which we didn’t really want to do. I set the GPS to avoid freeways and went from there.

Along the way we stopped at a steelhead (ocean going trout) hatchery where we learned about the effect of dams on migratory fish. The yearlings were already gone on their merry way to the ocean so the big reservoirs were empty but one of the staff members pointed us to the hatchery building. We could see the all the stages from eggs to fry.

From here we carried on following the GPS instructions. We stopped along the way for lunch in Bliss, caught up on some blog posts and other internet related tasks.

Off again and on some really nice country roads, few cars and great scenery along the cattle fields and flower covered rolling hills. Every now and then paved roads turned into dirt roads, mostly in great condition before returning to paved again. For the best part we really didn’t know how the GPS was taking us but we just followed the line on the screen.

For the best part things went great, old google maps did try and take us into the farmers land, well, it succeeded to some degree! Anyway, once surrounded by cows we realized we probably weren’t in the right spot. We then opted to do the last 10 miles on the Interstate as the alternative options were limited and on rough roads / through fields!

Once on the turn off to the SR21 we stopped for some food supplies and headed up to the park where we were hoping to find a tent site. It is Memorial weekend coming up here and most of the parks and camp grounds will be really busy and booked up months in advance. Memorial week end is one of the busiest times for national parks.

We were lucky not only found an nice spot, but it was free! First free campsite since leaving on our adventure.

So, from rocky country you’ve now arrived in cow country, flat and grassy.
All kinds of track will make for a nice bouquet in the end.
Nice to have friends and relatives along the way, makes for intermediate destinations.
Sure these guys will be looking forward to see you, I would!
Baci on a Sunday morning in MON.
