As the forecast had predicted, it snowed all night and was to continue to snow all day. When we got up around 0800 there was already about 30cms of snow on the ground and it was coming down in large flakes. The horses were fine under the roof of the hotel only getting a little snow on them. The roads were ok for car traffic but definitely no good for motorcycles. We weren’t going anywhere today!
I spoke to the hotel staff and added another 2 nights to our stay hoping that by then the roads will be good again. The receptionist offered to drive us into town and we took that offer. Once in town we were on foot, walking in the snow and looking for places that might be open and worth checking out. 1st stop was breakfast, we spent a couple of hours there catching up on the blog, internet etc… it was quite pleasant watching the thick snowflakes piling up on the trees cars and rooftops.
We left the breakfast cafe and headed down main street where most shops and restaurants took the opportunity of a snow storm to take the day off. A few gift shops were open and we went from one to the next killing time.
We had been told about a micro brewery downtown that might be open so we headed in that direction. Along the way we came across an old movie theatre dating back over 100 years who, apparently were open! Only one screen so only one movie to pick from. The showing was at 16:45 so we still have a few hours to kill.
Lucky for us the brewery was open with a few patrons there enjoying the day off work. The staff at the Rock Cut Brewery was really firendly and we spent a few hours there enjoying the various local brews until movie time. There were a few power cuts during the day so we weren’t too sure whether the theatre was going to be open given the circumstances. Not only was the theatre open and the movie played as scheduled but we were the only 2 people in there, we met the owner of the place who told us a bit about the history of the place and then we watched “The Circle” with Tom Hanks and Emma Watson.
By the time the movie was over we were ready to head back to our hotel. Most restaurants in town were closed so there wasn’t much point isnstaying there. There were no Ubers around (surprise!) and the only taxi company told me they weren’t working that day… So we walked back the 2.5kms to the hotel, which was actually a nice walk in the snow, few cars on the road so pretty quiet.
Diner at the local restaurant was average and we quickly moved back to our hotel room… The snow didn’t slow down all day and by the night there was about 80cms of snow on the ground. Considering the weather we had a really nice day. Now we just have to wait and see what tomorrow has in store for us!
TA
In fact, snow and one or a few days of rest will not be a bad thing after 50 days in the saddle.
Gives you time to write more, put some photos online, read your mail.
Just relax, I’m sure you had counted that into the planning.
Enjoy the rest, the beers and the movie house as there seems not to be any more to visit.
Well, here’s my baci on a sunny saturday morning with Sis at home!
As you have seen it all over there by now, maybe you can start building a snowman tomorrow ?
Would like to see the result of your art work 😉 Zoe – Tanguy ?
Can’t wait !
