Day 50, Boulder CO – Estes Park (Rocky Mountains NP) 135kms 3

We enjoyed one last breakfast at Tim and Anne’s house before it was time to go. We hit the road, back through Jamestown to get to the Canyon Rd to Estes Park, a small mountain town at the entrance to Rocky Mountain NP. The weather started sunny and beautiful, but a storm was on the way. On the way we stopped at a visitor centre to fix our intercoms, and drove up a cool dirt road to see some hiking trails before the park. We did a short walk to a waterfall before the weather packed it in and it started raining. Our next stop was lunch at a little pub in Estes, where we decided Steamboat Springs was too far to get to today, and we might as well spend some time in the park here.

After a stop to look at hikes in the NP visitor centre, we drove the scenic roads inside Rocky Mountain park. We got quite a long way up Trailridge road (the high pass which a section of is still closed). So took a walk to enjoy the views. We spotted a new critter, the Pika, scurrying around the rocks up there. Looks like a cross between a mouse and a Guinea pig. One thing with Rocky Mountain NP is there are Elk, everywhere! On the way back it was nearing dusk and herds of them were grazing in the meadows. All the Bucks hang together, and the females separately.

We then checked into our Motel which was right on the river close to the park, then into town for Nepalese for dinner.

Right, I’m up to date again and back in the right order.
Since some days you don’t mention daily distances any more, meaning … after 10K you loose track?
Loos track of distance and time, just going where the roads leads you for the day!
That’s real road-tripping, not the destination but the curves and the straights!
    Thanks for sharing!

Blog posts have been edited and distances added! I often forget to turn the tracker on… and yes, there was a bit of an order issue for some reason. Not always easy to be on the road and keep the blogs up to date. We often do 3 or 4 blog days back to back or in a different order, generally at lunch or diner when we have wifi. It’s proving more of a challenge than anticipated! But glad you are enjoying it and we will do our best to keep it going.
