Yep it was a cold night in our tent, we emerged late, tried to warm up as I got the cooker on to defrost the ice in the pot and Tanguys water tank. Unfortunately the sun had not yet shown up as forecasted, the water was still frozen around us at 10am!! Had a hot brew and a quick breakfast then hit the trails.
We hiked down into the Canyon along the Queens Garden route, which split off and joined the Peek-a-boo loop, a bit more strenuous section with lots of elevation dips. It was incredibly scenic down there, with so many ‘Hoodoos’ windows, arches tunnels and towering rock formations. Definitely the most impressive erosion formed rock features I have seen before.
Then it was a rather steep elevation gain and another mile up to Bryce’s lookout, where we had to go in order to catch the shuttle back towards camp for lunch. We ate a yummy buffet at the wooden lodge in the park. After warming up, we wandered back outside along the rim trail, taking advantage of the sun finally coming out for a few pics.
Then it was to the general store; only just realised there was one near the campsite. Bought a few things and shower tokens, rushed back to camp to get shower things before they shut at 6(early!).
Back at camp we washed the salt off our bikes, did some laundry, the headed back to the lodge in hopes they were conducting an astrology session tonight – no luck.
Cooked dinner back at camp, it’s slightly warmer tonight so hopefully we are in for a better sleep…
