It’s a short ride from Flagstaff to the Grand Canyon at just about 120kms so we didn’t get up super early or rush out of the campsite. From Flagstaff we took the more scenic option via the base of the snow covered San Fransisco peak and north westwards towards the western entrance of the Grand Canyon NP
We arrived just after noon and went on a hunt to find a place to pitch our tent. It seems this place is busy no matter what time of the year but we got lucky and even though the sign at the entrance of the campground indicated it was full, the ranger managed to find us a spot for 2 nights. We claimed that spot by building our home, dropped our gear and set off to the visitor centre.
The Grand Canyon visitor centre was an absolute zoo! People from all over the world wandering around in all sorts of directions with selfie sticks ready for action. Not my idea of a fun day out in the wilderness but then again, the Grand Canyon is probably the most famous park in the world so what was I suppose to expect?
We took a short hike along the rim battling the crowds, snapped some pictures and eventually wondered into a quieter visitor centre that was able to help us out with less crowded hikes into the Canyon for the next day.
We made the most of the relative warm weather and still condition (Flagstaff had been ridiculously windy and cold for the last 4 days) to hang out at our campsite and prepare diner / lunch for the for the next day.
As soon as he sun went down the temperature dropped to just above freezing as per normal at this time of the year. We hunkered down in our tent with a hot tea and called it a day.
Internet and cell reception are becoming scarce, we are definitely in the cudds, the boonies, the wop wops! We are trying to keep up with the blogs whenever we can upload

Another tick on the bucket list!
After 4,5 years on Aldabra I guess you more than needed this kind of adventurous adventure.
With or without the massive tourist flow, enjoy every second of it.
We’re off to the Principality to vote for the Prince-election (not the singer) and we’ll stay on till tomorrow to get our annual “proof of life” certificate for the Belgian administration.
At least we’ll miss the French election frenzy.
Keep well and baci to both!
It’s worth it to get cold feet when you see what’s waiting for you outside ! There’s always a way to get warm….shall I explain 🙂
What a scenery, what a view ! Thank you !
