Had a lie in after yesterday’s long ride, then up and cooked a yummy breakfast, gave our bikes a good clean then headed down the 89A to Sedona. We did this road a few days ago in the dark, but during the day was far better! It wound down a steep section of switchbacks through the impressive towering Cliff-faced Mountains as it dropped about 3000feet into Sedona.
Town was very busy with traffic so we kept going until about 19miles out of town to the Tozigoot Indian ruins. This was the remains of the big building structure on top of a hill which was occupied for approximately 400years. Pretty neat to see a fully reconstructed room with a reed lined ceiling and logs to support it.
After that we were famished so headed partway up the next mountain pass to the small town of Jerome. This was a super quaint town that I wish we had more time to explore. Had a delicious lunch at the Haunted Hamburger which boasted impressive views of the dessert plateau and brightly coloured mountains. Headed back down to Sedona, Tanguy had found a cool hike with a dirt road leading up to it on the outskirts of town.
We attempted the dirt road, it was unfortunately full of big, uneven sections of rock/boulders sticking out of the dust, we didn’t make it halfway before we had to stop, park our bikes and hike the rest of the way.
Hiked up to the Devils’ Bridge, which was mostly an easy hike except the steep section at the end. Pretty impressive! We could have easily spent a week or more in Sedona, the scenery and hiking here is absolutely stunning.
Then the dreaded task(for me) getting the bikes back on the pavement in the almost sunset light. A steep, Boulder-y section near the end I hit at the wrong angle and went sideways :-/ the bike was fine and I escaped with a few bruises. With the help of T, back on the paved road (phew).
We then headed to the Bell Tower rock hike, we rushed up there as the sun was almost gone, ended up circumnavigating the entire rock tower searching for a trail leading further up! Such beautiful scenery with desert cacti, flowering yucca and small pines dotted all the way along.
After darkness had fallen we headed back along the 89A, to our last night at the cold and windy Flagstaff KOA. Looking forward to the next spot, which will have slightly better views …

Wild nature is so nice and America has it all. It’s sometimes difficult to get to a point of view and thus we take some risks… Luckily you are not harmed Zoe. It”s a massive bike with a lightweight girl on top…take good care ! How was your knee after the steep downhill hike ?
See you tomorrow yaya !
Je peux recommander.

Sorry to read you stepped off the bike Zoë, luckily no harm done but inevitable I would think on such a ride.
Don’t always follow the “live fast, die young” guy!
Lucky for the home-sitters Google maps exist to locate Sedona and Jerome, free geography lectures.
Thanks
and baci of course!
Eventually, if you ride long enough especially off the paved road, you will step off… the bikes are kitted out with that in mind so no harm done there. You just have to make sure you get out of the way when it happens!
Yeah sure ! Easy !
