Fully recovered for yesterday’s hike we were ready to carry on with our adventure. Early morning rise followed by the breakfast and pack up ritual and soon enough we were on our way north. Just 50 Kms up the road, across the border in New Mexico lie the Carlsbad Caverns National park.
I have seen a few caves in my 39 years and wasn’t too fussed on seeing more. Zoe was keen so we went and… I am glad we did! There is no picture or words that can describe this place! First off, the cave is huge! I mean absolutely gigantic! We walked around for well over an hour in there. It is really well laid out with easy walkways and just absolutely amazing. If you are ever in New Mexico or in the western parts of Texas, go check it out! There are several cave systems to explore, some are self guided some are more advanced and require booking and a guide. The tours were fully booked so we had to do the basic cave, and there really is nothing basic about this place!
We took the elevator down and hiked back up (our knees are still recovering from yesterday) a 1/2 day very well spent.
From there we headed north to Roswell, famous for its 1947 UFO crash. We found a deserted campground at a nearby state park and built our home for the night. I had a brief encounter with a fellow rider but for the rest we were alone up there.
We had ran out of food supplies and ready for a proper meal so we made the 30km drive into town to get dinner at a cool bar/restaurant.
That pretty much concluded that day, and plans were made (since we had phone service) for the coming days.

This cave looks like a gigantic piece of art ! I guess being in there makes it even more impressive …
Good to hear that Zoe’s knee is better.
Yeah, I like the phone services too 🙂
See you guys tomorrow xx
You started to go North, that’s the way to AK!
So caves and aliens all in one day?
Sounds like extremely distanced adventure-experiences.
Any plans for a third kind encounter?
