Day 8, Lafayette FL – Somerville TX, 470kms 2

Today we left Louisiana and arrived in Texas. Not a very scenic day as such but cooler temperatures made for more pleasant riding conditions however, the wind made the ride somewhat challenging. For most of the afternoon we were being thrown around having to work hard to keep the bike tracking straight and not be flung into the oncoming traffic.

470kms from Lafayette FL to Somerville TX

The Texan roads, with little traffic and high speed limits allow for good progress and we managed to cover about 100kms further than we thought we would. That’s a nice thing considering the vast size of the state. It will most likely take us 3 more days to get through to the other side into New Mexico.

There aren’t really any highlights or places of interest we want to spend time at so the goal is the national parks in New Mexico. So we will keep on trucking until we get there.

Our home for the night on the edge of a lake

The campsite for the night is quite a nice spot with lots of wildlife, deer, armadillos, raccoons and insects… lots of insects! Having to work hard at keeping them out of our tent! ..(or, having to remind Tanguy to shut the zipper every time you come and go through the door, heheh)
