New Orleans was awesome but it’s time to push on and head westwards. We left straight after breakfast, packed our mules and set off in the New Orleans traffic. A few diversions later and we were at our 1st and only stop of the day, the “Oak Alley” plantation.
Oak Alley was a sugar cane plantation back in the mid to late 1800s, nestled on the banks of the Mississippi River. Interesting bit of history, a quick lunch stop at their restaurant and a stroll around the gardens and through the 28 magnificient oaks that line the path to the main house.
The rest of the afternoon was hot and boring, turns out spring in Lousiana is pretty warm and the scenery is nothing to write home about. We thought taking the smaller roads and avoiding Baton Rouge traffic might be more interesting… not sure it was but we avoided traffic which is always a bonus!
We were hot and bothered so decided to set up camp in Lafayette some 100 miles from the Texan border which we plan to cross tomorrow morning.
This concludes our 1st week on the road…

Not much adventure here, but always nice to read your progress.

These Oaks have been cut low right from the beginning which makes them even nicer for a majestuous Alley.
