Today we decided to cheat! After yesterday’s experience in traffic on the secondary roads we figured that if we were going to reach New Orleans by the end of the afternoon, the freeway was the only way. Generally speaking I prefer avoiding the freeways but, we have places to go! And alternate roads are limited in this area.
So, freeway it was… we left Florida and into Alabama. Alabama was a short lived experience with about 100 Kms before being in the next state. But we did get off the freeway for some lunch, and what a lunch it was! Southern hospitality at its finest at Ozzys restaurant in Grand Bay AL. What a great pair of guys cooking up some yummy southern style food in what looked like a small house. I highly recommend it!
From there it was onto Mississippi (also a short lived experience) and into Louisiana. We got off the freeway some 30 miles before NOLA (after I missed a turn off) and enjoyed some of the scenery on the way in.
We arrived at the hotel Richelieu and put the bikes to bed in the secured car park. Had a quick swim in the pool and a clean up before hitting the town for some jazz music. We started at The Spotted Cat Music Club and moved onto Bourbon Street where amidst the spring break chaos we found a really cool band at the Maison Bourbon Jazz Club
Nice roads, good food, jazz music, nice company!
What could you want more on a trip like this?
