Bumble bee final pre departure checks and maintenance. 4

Full 24,000 mile service going on in the car park

With a little under 3 weeks to go it’s time for the final checks and pre-departure maintenance. Since we are headed for an extensive trip it’s best to get it all out of the way before we go. The service included the following:

  • Lube oil and filter change
  • Gear oil change & installation of a magnetic plug
  • Final drive & installation of a magnetic plug
  • Replacement of all 4 spark plugs
  • Valve clearance adjustments
  • Clutch fluid replacement
  • Break fluid replacement (which on a bike with servo assist breaks… sucks!)

    Valve clearance adjustments

In addition I also installed a new after market serviceable drive shaft, the bike has 40,000 miles after all!

New shaft ready to go in

And finally I installed a power outlet in the top box for charging devices when the bike is unattended. Checked all the fasteners, tires, lights, cables and hoses… bike is good to go for the next 6,000 miles.

Upon inspection of the tires, I found a screw stuck in the rear tire… I guess that’s why we check these things!

All in all, a long but productive day. Next up the lady bug…
