First weekend of January and the last of the major preparations are being completed.
The 650GS received its new TFX rear shock absorber and the Scottoiler installation is now complete with the double injection system. Also installed the side stand enlarger that we received month ago but didn’t quite fit right… Took some grinding but I got it on there in the end!
New Shock absorber going in.
Out with the old and in with the new!
Side stand enlarger.
The 650 is now set up for the trip. It will still need a new chain and sprockets and 10,000 kms service which will happen just before departure.
During the rainy hours of the week end I pulled apart and rebuilt the spare final drive I bought second hand. It came of a 2005 GS with 43,000 miles on the clock. there was nothing apparently wrong with it but for the sake of doing it right, I replaced the main bearings (both grooved ball bearing and needle bearing) and the seals. This unit is now more or less brand new. Hopefully I won’t have to use it.
2nd hand final drive with 43000 miles was dismantled and received new main bearings and seals.
Also check the shimming which seemed to be spot on. Ready to come along on the trip as a spare.
